Attention: Jill Evans M.E.P

Thank you for taking an interest in EMR/EMF (electro-magnetic radiation / electro-magnetic fields) concerns and for your visit to Penally in respect of a proposed TETRA installation, which is now a reality. Also for offering to comment and answer questions upon this subject for posting on our community site.

EMR/EMF is a wide ranging subject and includes effects from various sources with some of them being capable of being controlled by the individual. Radiation from communication transmitters is imposed upon almost everyone and affords no option for exclusion - hence questions and concerns. Most of us embrace technology and the convenience that it brings. We hope that we can be reassured that it will be free of any side effects, but unfortunately the present assurances are inadequate.

An outcome of the Stewart Report is the formation of the Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research Programme (MTHR), which has now published a primary report setting out the controlling committee's opinions and intentions for the second phase of the programme. This report is based upon a 6 year study and a primary operating budget of £6 million. They also invite proposals for consideration of inclusion in phase two. Since this programme seems to be the focus for the future in the UK, it also forms the basis for our concerns and questions.

Questions & Concerns

1) Transmitter Proliferation
The present findings of this report seem to be based upon scientific studies conducted with reference to singular types of radiation. Our community hosts a cluster of masts with at least 7 transmitters, including TETRA. We have a report based upon a 6 year study with no reference to the collective effects of mixed radiation and in our particular case a cocktail of 7 variants.

What are the short and long term effects of this mixed exposure?

2) Transmitter Proximity
TETRA - We are led to understand that proximity should be a matter for concern. The field of greatest intensity falls within 350 metres of the transmitter ground zero point, with beam direction and beam angle concentrating the radiation toward given areas. We have a TETRA transmitter sited with residential properties within this radius ( 75 metres in one case).

What are the short and long term effects of being exposed to this type of intensity?

3) Transmitter Proliferation & Transmitter Proximity

What are the short and long term effects of being exposed to both the above conditions at the same time?

4) Specific Concerns
One of the buildings in close proximity to the TETRA transmitter (75 metres) periodically houses profoundly disabled children who often suffer from Epilepsy and/or have medical implants.

In view of the transmitter cocktail and proximity, should this TETRA installation be removed?

5) Human Rights
Duly acknowledging the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (which appear to have been disregarded in this case) -

Have the human rights of these children been denied?

Thank you for your kind attention.
