| The email set out below was a response to the pre-election PR circular letter from Simon Hart, which invited potential voters to inform him of justified concerns held by voters in the electoral area. This approach is welcomed and we are pleased to comply. Subsequent inter-changes are also listed below. From: "JoRoCo"

Dear Mr. Hart, Thank you for sending this community copies of your introductory letter as
the prospective candidate for the Conservative Party with the invitation to
advise you about issues that are of concern at present. You are quite rightly
proud of your family environment and as a father of young children, I would be
interested to consider your reaction to our concerns, as set out below.
The Silent Enemy The two faces of electro-magnetic radiation Positive - it provides us with desirable modes of communication, entertainment and various other benefits that are very welcome. Negative - it also provides us with an undefined threat to our health that will become increasingly evident with the passage of time. You may well ask, "What are you talking about?"
In a word - TETRA This is NOT a mobile phone issue. TETRA is
different and far more sinister.
Well, as a start to answering that question you should consider the
Trower Report to the Police Federation of England & Wales A confidential report setting out in simple terms the advantages and dangers of one recently introduced form of radiation - TETRA. There are now over 3,300 TETRA transmitters across the UK and make no mistake, they effect everyone, including you and especially your children. View the Report - http://www.penally.org.uk/democ.html Menu Item 3 - TETRA Every adult living in the UK should read this report and consider the
implications!
Question: Since it will affect everyone - why is it being allowed?
Answer: Money - Personal Gain - Greed
Our Government sold the communication transmission bands previously used by the Emergency Services to mobile phone companies and had to provide a replacement. The indecent haste to fill this gap (with one and only one supplier) has resulted in a multi-million pound financial inter-change that masks the truth. Too many individuals and groups feel the need to protect their financial interests and prefer to ignore the, to date, unproven dangers of their actions and they hope that it may prove to be OK, at least within their lifetime. Precedents SMOKING - it has taken hundreds of years for this society to realise that
it kills, but successive Governments have milked it despite the dangers!
People continue to smoke knowing that it is likely to kill them.
It is not immediate, so worry about it later. "Too late", comes the
cry!
CHRISTMAS ISLAND - the first Atomic Bomb was tested on that island with soldiers being used to test the radiation effects upon the person. Whilst there was no malicious intent and it was believed that it may be harmless, it was not the politicians, or bomb technicians that were exposed, or who later suffered cancers. However, these tests were carried out, because there was no evidence at that time that radiation was harmful. There was also no evidence that it was NOT harmful, but the individuals were put at risk regardless. You should also be advised that not only is there very strong communal resistance to a new TETRA installation on the fringe of our village, but that similar resentment and fears are evident across the UK and politicians will have to account for their attitudes eventually. Irrespective of our normal political views, many of us would vote for a candidate who would seek to remove this threat from our society. In addition, the Penally installation is sited 75 metres from a registered charity holiday home for profoundly disabled children and currently subject to High Court action. The personal and political views of a Parliamentary candidate in respect of this matter will be of keen interest to our community and accordingly this document and any response that you care to make will be posted on our community web site, as listed above. We will be posing the same question of all candidates, except Mr. Nick Ainger MP, who has been involved and is aware of the situation. Regards, Joseph C Robinson Penally Resident |

I think I can make my position clear. So long as there is an element of doubt as to the side effects of this proposal then any decision should observe the ‘precautionary principle’. In other words, there should be a presumption against this type of proposal. It would also seem clear to me that you have some special circumstances in Penally that further contribute to this view. In reaching this type of view I would always try to take into account the requirements of the emergency services. However, it does not seem to me that the safety of the county is reliant on this mast being put in place. I am therefore happy to register my opposition to it. Yours, Simon Hart |
