County Councillor Carol Cavill's Report
September 2009
Food - waste Collection

The collection of food waste has begun in certain parts of Pembrokeshire
this week. Further areas will be included as and when the new vehicles are
available. At the moment, nowhere in this are is included but it is hoped
that it should begin early in the next financial year. Bins and bags will be
provided for this waste. All food waste can be included, cooked and
uncooked and also bones and pet food.

Partial Extinguishing of Street Lights

In reply to the consultation letter on the subject of shutting off street
lights between midnight and 5.30 am in areas which do not meet the criteria
of safety, core areas etc., and the statement that Penally does not meet any
of the criteria , I have pointed out the following.
In Penally there is a Night club at one end of the village, two pubs, a
restaurant and a hotel in the middle of the village. The main village road
is very narrow, particularly in the central part, with high walls on each
side, so no verge to walk on and there are no pavements throughout the main
village road. Also, at the opposite end of the village to the night Club is
the army camp.

Litter bins on the path to the beach

These have not been emptied as often as they should have been and I have
asked that more attention be paid to them, particularly during the main
holiday season.

Blocked gullies and weeds in the gutter

All these have been reported. The Area Maintenance department have pointed
out, that because of the wet summer, their weed killing programme has been
largely ineffective. They are hoping, now that they have changed to a more
effective weed killer, things will improve.

Road Sweeper

The white road sweeper continues to come through Penally village on Saturday
afternoons but this is not enough time to cover the whole village in one go.
Therefore different parts are covered each week
